| | Harmony Village Project - China
- At least 20% more green space per village vs most developed communities
- Through carefully managed growth each village can create jobs for everyone
- Healthier lifestyles as emphasis will be in active work and play
- Produce will be grown using environmental methods which minimize waste and the use of chemicals, while conserving water and land resources.

|
Intact and Healthy Community Living The progress of the Villages can be assessed overtime by using the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) which targets the environmental factors set by the EPI. |
| The Harmony Villages’ model includes partnerships with local, regional and national government, ministries, universities, suppliers and other villages. Each Village’s long term sustainability and productivity was based on three pillars: |
- Meeting Basic Needs
- Supplying appropriate and affordable housing
- Providing health care
- Using locally produced and nutritious foods
- Providing jobs that utilize peoples skills and abilities
- Creating a safe work and home environment
- Breaking the cycle of poverty
| |
- Providing Opportunities
- For people to develop and upgrade their skills
- For education and training for a variety of jobs
- For the development of new and more efficient ways to produce food and goods
- For recreation and cultural pursuits
- To contribute to the health and wellbeing of the Village and the nation
| |
- Encouragement and Support
- For the economic development of the Village
- To establish an identity for the Village
- For culture and art
- For involvement in Village affairs

Specific benefits of the BluePlanet technologies in Harmony Village Aquaculture - Conventional yields in pond aquaculture are 18 fish/M3. Harmony Village will provide 88 fish/M3
- Aquaculture provides a low footprint, and a low cost protein source for everyday dietary needs. For example, with the BPE system 1 Ha of aquaculture can provide 450,000 Kg of fish yearly, and over time can provide more.
- The space used in conventional aquaculture is approximately 10X what is needed for the proposed BPE system. This is because surface exchange is the primary method of Nitrate removal in conventional systems, the BPE system uses the Nitrates as fertilizer for vegetable crops.
- Because of the lower area requirement, a BPE system can be housed under greenhouse with several advantages:
- Minimal loss of fish to birds and animals.
- Less contamination of water from airborne parasites and dust/dirt.
- The large indoor water tanks absorb heat energy throughout the day and expel it at night, reducing the need for ancillary greenhouse heating.
|
Aquaponics - Reduced water consumption through constant water reuse and recycling 90%.
- 100% organic fertilization of plants with natural fish emulsion to reduce chemical fertilizer consumption.
- Reduction of solid waste from typical aquaculture by 90%.
- Aquaculture requires a wide range of people with different skills. A 1 Ha aquaculture farm requires 25 people (general labour, scientists, mechanical staff, processing people, logistics/drivers, health inspectors, etc) for 7 days a week. This can easily translate into 200+ skilled people required for the aquaculture center alone.

 |
Hydroponic green house growing - Greenhouse yields are 12-15X the yield improvements over open field yields depending on crop selection.
- On average, each Ha of greenhouse can produce 1,800,000 kg of vegetables and 30,000 kgs of fish every 7-9 months.
- Within Harmony Village one Ha of aquaculture can supply enough nutrients to grow 20 Ha of greenhouse. This can almost provide the entire food requirement of a 5000 person village!
- Greenhouse operations require 28 people per Ha, 7 days a week. Harmony Village could easily employ and trail 400+ labourers and technical people.
- A proposed BPE aquaponics system uses fish waste instead of fertilizer, ensuring that soil contamination is kept to a minimum and fresh water supply is not compromised.
- Glass greenhouses are truly sustainable and can produce indefinitely without the need for full replacement.
|
Open Field Farming with flood/drain irrigation and aeration - A minimum of 40% irrigation water reduction.
- A minimum of 20% increase in yield.
- A minimum of 20% reduction in fertilizer (due to better absorption and lower loss)
- 10X the bennificial bacteria to keep plants healthy and disease free.
- Local farmers will be trained on the modern, efficient farming techniques and supply the labour.
- Amount of labour will depend on type of crops and geographical area.
|
Intergrated Biological Waste Water Treatment Plant - Highly efficient, using 50% less energy and space than typical installations.
- Automated monitoring ensures discharge water quality.
- Simple, low maintenance operation.
- Waste water is treated and returned to the original water source cleaner than it left.
- Employment for several local trade people, several staff needed on site 24/7.
|
Solar, Wind and/or Hydro power generation - Depending on local winds can generate up to 80% of power requirements.
- Promote self reliance.
- Create environmentally friendly power
- Harmony Village power consumption can be reduced 30% or more by using advanced materials, technologies and techniques.
